        Biographical Data

  • Marcel Guguianu - born in 1922 at Bârlad - Romania.
  • He starts his studies of sculpture in 1933 at the School of Arts and Trades. He was student of the Academy of Fine Arts - Bucharest, Romania, Professor C. Medrea's student.
  • Professor of Sculpture and Drawing.
  • Expert-Councellor in restoration for historic and art monuments.
  • Life-long member of the Union of Fine Arts Artists of Romania.
  • Visiting-Professor of Sculpture, invited by the State of San Marino.
  • His activity consists in works of monumental sculpture, statuary groups, bronze and marble busts of many writers, poets, scientists, actors, placed in parks, public gardens, institutes, theatres and museums in Romania and abroad.
  • Numerous works are to be found in private and state collections in Romania, Italy, Canada, Yugoslavia, Denmark, Netherland, France, Germany, Japan, Greece, USA, South America, etc.

Washington, 1996 January 18-th

Cer îngaduinta de a ma alatura oaspetilor de marca din Carpatii României, concentateni din tara unde prietenia se consfinteste adesea cu daruri. Astazi, este prilejul de a confirma acest obicei al poporului român prin bucuria cu care oferim înaltului amfitrion al acestui moment de cultura o lucrare din aceasta expozitie, lucrare ce reprezinta o silueta feminina în bronz cu trup de pasare. Este vorba de o legenda ce se refera la o fecioara de pe plaiurile Carpato-Danubiene (România) care se înnamoreaza de Soare, bucurându-se în diminetile când el rasare în aurora si se întristeaza în amurg. Însa mama Soarelui Natura, nu îngaduie acest amor îndraznet si, în obiceiul pamântului, trimite blestem asupra copilei, transformând-o în pasare, acea pasare ce în zilele noastre are zborul spre Soare, numindu-se în graiul românesc Ciocârlia (Lia). Poeti si artisti au rememorat în creatiile lor aceasta fantasma populara, ducând-o la acel simbol caracteristic poporului român, cu aspiratii la libertate, independenta, neutralitate. Se spun ca valoarea acestei opere de arta, daca este valoare, creste dupa moartea artistului. Dar sa nu va grabiti, caci oricum nu va va scoate dintr-un impas financiar… Am oferit cu placere acest simbol al unui popor ce traieste linistea muntilor si glasul apelor ce curg în oceanele lumii, gânduri de întelegere între oameni”.
